But I'm here now... and am ready to be an active contributor.

G12 Deep Review.

So, here today, I will be reviewing a prototype G12 deep concave deck. I received this deck from Mike a few weeks ago and its been one of the best decks Ive ever used.

Shipping: Well, The deck came in about three days, from Andover,MA to Brooklyn,NY. It was well packaged in a bubble mailer and the deck was wrapped individually in a sheet of bubble wrap.

First Impressions: When I first saw the deck I noticed that the shape looked like a woodguest and a BWNM mixed together. The concave looked a lot mellower than expected but still looked like it had good performance. The bottom ply was a walnut burl and looked beautiful along with the "single black middle ply" look.

As you can see, here is a picture of the plies

Craftsmanship:The craftsmanship on this deck is amazing, The holes are aligned perfectly and went on with ease. The shape of the deck was sanded very well and included rounded edges as well as the infamous pointy kicks. It measures out to 28x101, the exact size of the original G12s

Performance Well the performance of this deck is amazing, the deep concave definitely. was a very good add on, because it gives you a lot more control. Which is different from the flats which I wasn't a fan of. They are a bit too long but that is a very easy thing to get used to. Within a day you will be up and running. If you like a BWNM you will easily fall in love with this deck

Soo, i got a Q&A with Todd Cuzzort, owner of no comply distribution

1.So, Hey Todd, hows it going, hope all is well with the family!

It's going good. I am feeling much better, but I am looking at a surgery in a couple months, to hopefully keep me flare up free for up to 5 years, with no medicine. I hope it works. I want to thank everyone who expressed concern while I was in the hospital and through my sickness. It means the world to me, to know that I am thought of in such high regard by my peers.

Family is good, my daughter started kindergarten, which is a unique experience as a father. I'm working with her to get her fingerboarding, so watch out guys!

2.Well, about the company, Why'd you discontinue the M1 and mini wheels? Those were some of the best products from no comply, it made you famous.

Well, I'm trying to get back to my roots. Which is one reason why, I brought back No Comply Decks. Not to mention, so many requests. I can only have so many molds, before it gets too confusing. I have some molds in the works, that are similar to the M1. As far as mini wheels, breaking news, they are NOT going to be discontinued. I had such a response from people to keep them. I'm one to give my peeps what they want.

3.Well, where'd you get the inspiration for some of your new Fall 2010 graphics?

Honestly, I didn't have a specific inspiration. I sat down one night and started playing around in my software. I seen Shayler Williams posted a shadow picture of himself and I just ran with it. I'm trying to be more creative with my graphics as you will see with the Fall Ammon Wilkes graphic. It's going to be epic, with some flare of an old graphic of Ammon's when he rode for waste. I'm still working on graphics everyday, and you will see some unique and creative stuff from No Comply this fall. We are bringing back natural graphics also. We tried them in Oct. '08 before it was the "in" thing to do, and no one really cared for them. Now, people really want them and are requesting them, so I'll jump back on that train to give my peeps what they desire.

I did have obvious inspiration for the Gut Check V2 graphic. Being recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and getting x rays done while in the hospital last month, it made sense. I try to be charitable when I can, so the idea came to donate 50% of the profits from the graphic, to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, on behalf of myself and my sister, a 25 year Crohn's patient.

4.Also, Any new plywood ramps coming up? I would love to see a jersey barrier.

At this time, Plywood Ramps is on hold. Justin is back to school and we can't get together as often to work. Some small stuff I will work on. Such as the parking curbs, and some other "urban" scenery for people to use in their parks and plazas. I played around with a jersey barrier in early '09. I didn't like the way it turned out, so I scrapped the idea. I've been wanting to do one, so maybe you'll see it in the fall line up. Rest assured, big things can be expected of Plywood Ramps, in due time.

5.What is your opinion on Fingerboard Familia

Fingerboard Familia, is a great idea. As with any blog/news website, it's great to give fingerboarders an insight to what goes on with fingerboarders, and companies alike. Bringing information to the forefront, in positive way, can't ever be a bad thing.

I just want to take the time to tell people this. Be easy on your fellow fingerboarder. We are small in numbers and without each other, what we have that we love so much, might not be around. I am also seeing so much right now, that is killing the spirit of fingerboarding. Companies with ZERO originality, no desire to create something new, and giving the same stale products. Those of us, who built our companies on originality and innovation, see this as a slap in the face. Companies like No Comply, Homewood, Yellowood, Berlinwood, Flatface, Low Pro, Woodguest, Holywood, Prete(RIP) and others, who have been around and paid their dues, took pride in not taking the easy route. Now days, it seems the easier you can get a product to the fingerboarder and turn a quick profit, the better. That mentality is changing fingerboarding in a very negative way. It pains me to see that. Think about it.....

When people are obviously in the wrong, that brings exceptions, but just picking on people and trolling to be doing it, is killing the spirit of fingerboarding.

So this past Saturday I made the trip up to Princeton, Indiana to goo to the Final Jam at the No Comply PoP Factory. For those of you who didn't know, Todd Cuzzort is having to close the PoP Factory due to personal issues. The only thing I can say about this event is that it was awesome. There weren't too many kids, everyone got to use the ramps, everyone was nice, and it was an overall good day. Todd had prize drawings and every now and then you'd get challenged to a game of skate. I've been to the PoP twice now, and I have to say, I love the people and the products a lot, and I'm very sad to see it go. I wish Todd the best of luck, and I hope to see him again.

Bollie Wheels Review

Hey,Whats up readers of FBF

Im here to review the Bollie wheels I received from Flatface about a week ago.

Shipping: It got here from Andover, Massachusetts in about 3 days, which is normal time. It included a tracking number which is a first for small orders.

First Impressions: When I set these up, I had to double check to make sure that bearings weren't inside. I rode them on my Pocket Winkler and they felt exactly like my NC Minis. The shaping of the wheels is exactly like winklers, as a matter of fact, they are winklers, without bearings.

Performance: The performance mimics bearing wheels. They roll just as smooth and don't wobble as opposed to tech deck wheels.

Conclusion: Overall, if your either a beginner or just don't have a lot of money at the moment, these wheels are for you, for the cheap price of $15, They can be yours. You can buy here and here

Bad, Bad News

Hey guys, recently there's been some news that have hit the US scene hard. As some of you may know, Todd Cuzzort owner of No Comply has been in and out of the hospital battling some disease. Well, hes been recently diagnosed with Chronic dies ease. Due to this big impact on his life, he has now decided to close down the Pop Factory. He says, that he will keep a section in back of the current Pop factory for a few ramps. Todd is hosting a "Final Jam" before the "Pop Shop" closes.

Motive custom ply deck review

MOTIVE CUSTOM PLY DECK REVIEW

Shipping: The shipping was good. It took 6 days from massachusetts to Wisconsin, Which is about standard from ordering from a coastal state. It arrived in the standard bubblemailer, as usual.

First Impressions: I'd seen my deck in a few pictures that Colin (the owner) had sent me. He had said that the pictures really don't do justice. He wasn't kidding; I almost screamed when I opened the package. It was seriously one of the shinest decks i've ever seen. I also, because it is a custom ply deck, loved the combo i picked which was: blue, green, yellow, red, yellow. I was bouning with happiness.

Craftmanship: Colin really knows what he's doing with deck making. The deck is perfect. The decks are cut with a CNC machine so the deck is perfectly even. One thing is that the tips are kinda flat but not that bad of a deal. The holes are perfect too, except that one of the kingpin holes was badly off, but he probabley had to do that on his own because he doesn't usally make them with kingpins (asked for). The Shape is pretty even, it consists of medium kicks, low concave, and sorta define dips. The deck is very strong and is not warped. Like I said before, the laquer is amazing and the plys are dyed perfect and do not lack color in any areas.

Performance: The two other "popular" decks I've tried are woodlands and holywoods. This decks reigns high with them. the pop is amazing. I'm pretty constistant too. I feal like I have alot of control with this deck. i catch my trick so smootly that I can just continue on into another.

Interview with Chris Helme

In case you weren't aware, Chris Helme has taken over Defstone. I asked him a few questions regarding Defstone and his personal fingerboarding experience

1. What motivated you to start making decks?

When I first joined up with FBC, and later with FFI, I realized that there was a lot of heart put into the scene, and that the kids involved took it seriously, so I wanted to find a way to somehow add something to the fingerboarding world. When Todd started contemplating selling Defstone, I thought that would be the perfect opportunity. I had owned Defstone decks made by both Todd and Mark, and thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to not only give something back to fingerboarding, but a way to continue a company that already had a stellar reputation.

2. How did you choose your team?

Very carefully. First I looked into other companies, researched their teams, looked at how they represented their sponsors, and came up with a questionnaire that would let me know how prospective team members would represent Defstone. I wanted kids on the team who had heart, not just skills. They had to be able to represent themselves, their company, and me positively, anything they do or say is a reflection on me and on Defstone, so I expect a lot from them. They had to have some technical skill, and innovation, but they had to be good people first.

3. How long have you been fingerboarding?

I started fingerboarding the morning after I saw the Future Primitive video back in the 80's. I started making my own fingerboards out of lexan and hot wheels cars, anything that might work. I did that throughout junior high into high school and let it slip away. Years later, I spent some time working in a cubicle, in which I built a little cardboard skate park to use the new Tech Deck toys with, to keep me from falling asleep while on the phone with customers, haha. My kids dug out a box of old toys, which included those TD's, and it kind of took off from there. I bought wooden decks and bearing wheels for them, and we started collecting together, and then I took over Defstone.

4. Where would you like to see defstone go in the next few years?

I just want to continue making decks for people that are not only solid and usable, but I also want them to be unique, artistic and memorable, for however long that lasts, days, years, doesn't matter, as long as it's fun and I'm creating something cool.

5. Anything big coming up?

I'm looking into a mellow mold for fans who aren't as comfortable with the hardcore shape that Defstone has. I'm also getting a few artists together to hand paint decks for limited series', but that's only if sales pick up for me. For now I'm just going to keep making decks and doing what I do.

I: Well they arent really rumored, they are going to be released soon. its just one of theose products where certain people get to try to prototypes. BRR trucks were like that. But i realy want to see a side picture of them, they look sick.

Defstone Fingerboard Review

DEFSTONE FINGERBOARD REVIEW

Shipping: Shipping took under a week from the USA to Canada. I consider that VERY good.

First Impressions: My first impressions on this deck, once I opened the bubble mailer, was WOW. I took the deck out, and I looked at it, in awe. I had never before seen such a beautiful deck. After that, I took the deck into my room to setup/for further examinings. One thing I wouldn't have noticed is the little ingraved "D" with a fingerboard underneath.

Craftmanship: The craftmanship on this deck was UNBELIEVEABLE. The rounding is PERFECT, the edges are PERFECT, and there are roughly probably 4-6 coats of laquer. From the pictures i've seen on the internet, the shape is VERY consistent. The holes were drilled SPOT on, I had no problems getting the trucks on. Lastly, the dye job on all of the plys were OUTSTANDING.

Performance: The performance on this deck is just incredible. Before I got this deck, I always thought that Flatface G12's were my faveourite deck. After using this, That is no longer true. These decks so far in my usage of about two weeks, DO NOT loose pop at ALL. Truely AMAZING deck.

Really nothing to complain about... Very good for being a freshman deck maker.

Out of 10 I woud rate this deck a 9.0.

Agape Review

Im Here today to review my Agape deck.

Shipping:

The deck came in a bubble mailer with 2 little spongy things. Delivery Conformation included.

First Impressions:

When I first pulled the deck out of the bubble mailer
I was surprised to see a new shape and a nice looking graphic as well as vibrant plies, It was clean and lacquered perfectly. It was a huge change from the decks he made about a few months ago, I remember the deck i got in December from him, I hated it, low concave, steep dips and no good lacquer, from this deck i can tell he took a lot of constructive criticism into play.

Performance:

The deck performed great, a lot better than I expected. The shape has deep concave with medium-ish kicks, and nice long dips (I hate to compare) like a BWNM, It also contours to your fingers in some weird way. The graphic actually stood a fight, It lasted 6 days until it got a scratch which made me feel like a master hahaha. It also has a ton of pop which made Sw flips seem like ollies.

The level of finishing and performance is something I am personally proud of.

It can also be said that after 2 years of my life dedicating myself as a full time job to board making together with the present team, we can now consider ourselves good board makers, artisans almost.
But Ill let you all judge it for yourselves.

We can have a board exactly how we want it.
And that for me is what a deck maker is.

We open the shop with Blank Decks, Colored Decks, Hand painted decks and 2 boards from our Logo Series - The White Deck and the Black Deck.

There are many things we still have to improve with the shop and I hope everything goes fine on this opening day.

During the month of August we are going to introduce more news, I can give you a sneak preview: 2 new molds, our unique street curb and maybe we are going to be able to produce for outer selling our Lowpro Pool.
Plus a whole lot of stuff that I chose not to say now, i wanna make sure things are done correctly before promising something I cant deliver.

Andre Coral, Gil Dias,Tiago Costa, Paolo Melillo and Mitko Kanev produced the opening batch that is now in the shop.

I know there's a bunch of stuff am forgetting to say.
